Since Evernote was acquired by the Italian company “Bending Spoons”, it was immediately clear to me that they needed to monetize and make money.
Almost immediately they started an aggressive campaign with annoying pop-ups to force free plan users to sign up for a subscription.
I understand that maintaining a free platform is probably very difficult, but usually a free user becomes attached and then contributes to making the product known even in corporate/business environments. A marketing strategy that is used often.
Unfortunately, from August 6, 2024 they have decided that those using the free plan can only use one device.
I used the Android App and the browser to always have my personal and work information with me.
A very convenient system for when you are on holiday. For example, flight number, data about hotel reservations and various services, places you want to visit, or account/passwords at hand that are not very important (because – important – Evernote does not replace a password manager like LastPass) but useful when you don’t have a computer at hand.
So, unfortunately, I had to look for an alternative, and I found a practically identical product, also with the Android/Apple App, but still free: “Notion” and the site is notion.so.
For those who needs, Notion also has the Desktop application to edit and manage notes conveniently. I haven’t tried it but it seems to be of excellent quality.
Notion has many functions, it also has a commercial plan. I believe it will remain available for several years, so no worries about losing the notes we enter.
Important: Notion also has a system for importing/migrating Evernote notes with a simple click.
I just started using it and I have to say that for my type of use I haven’t noticed any differences.
What did you move/migrate to?
Bye bye Evernote, thanks for the company over these years 👋
